Ankara is African wax prints. It is essentially colorful vibrant designs industrailly producted on cotton. Authentic Ankara displays the same color intentisty on the material on both sides of the fabric. Therefore you should be able to flip the fabric inside out and still seem the same pattern with the same color intensity. The wax prints were part of a nonverbal way to communicate among African women. Often the prints are named after cities, individuals or even emotions.

Yes and no. As a small business, we do not have a giant warehouse and countless seamstress to create product to sell. Each product is hand sown and carefully inspected by our staff prior to it being shipped to you. It is often designed the moment you order it depending on the product.

Nubian Chic Designs does not have a brick and mortar. We are an online boutique. We do schedule pop-up shops around the Bay Area. For more information on our pop-up events you can follow up social media, sign up for our exclusive emails or check our website here.

Many our fabrics come directly from West Africa. We have a direct import and have a great relationship with our vendors. If there is more of a specific fabric that we no longer have in stock in the U.S., we may be able to acquire it for you. If not; we will research similar options to ensure that you are satisfied.

We are so sorry that your items did not arrive. Let us help you with the steps you need to take. All mishandled or misplaced packages must be handled through the courier service used. If a package was lost, delivered to the wrong address, or stolen, we advise that you file a claim with the courier. Provide us with the claim number and we will assist with any seller/shipper related questions. We do offer shipping insurance for an additional cost. Due to our custom designs, we suggest shipping insurance.
